  • As was already mentioned, an RSS reader would be best. I like miniflux in conjunction with the News Android app.

Raspberry Pi 5 challenger LattePanda Mu uses Intel N100 CPU to take on industry-leading single-board computer
  • A better comparison would be the RPi compute module 4 since both need a carrier. A thin client like you mention, or one of the recent sub $100 n100 mini PCs would be a good alternative.

Sipeed Announces New $20 RISC-V KVM Device with PiKVM Compatibility, 100M Ethernet and ATX Support
  • KVMs, especially with ATX power support, are great tools if something happens to your server and you can't reach it via network, like ssh. They use a video input instead of output to view the BIOS and see what's going on. Also the ability to not only reboot but control the actual power for hard resets make it like you're actually physically in front of the machine. If your server has an issue that you can't solve with KVM with power support, then that means you are in deep doodoo and either have a complete power outage, or the physical case would have to be removed to access the issue.

Why this is a big deal is pro KVMs cost hundreds of dollars if not more, and setting up a piKVM, especially with ATX power support, is not trivial. We did a big segment on piKVMs on the Linux Lugcast podcast, and I was just thinking of building one, but then I saw this new board and couldn't believe the price tag for what it offers.

Facebook snooped on users' Snapchat traffic in secret project, documents reveal
  • The project was part of the company’s In-App Action Panel (IAPP) program, which used a technique for “intercepting and decrypting” encrypted app traffic from users of Snapchat, and later from users of YouTube and Amazon, the consumers’ lawyers wrote in the document.

Looks like they didn't decrypt anything, just used MitM spyware.

Searxng Files Incompatible with Termux Environment
  • Traffic take longer? You're talking about milliseconds. Also Wake On Lan has been baked into BIOS's and Network cards for years so there's no need to waste power. Is the issue that you just don't have a PC? Regardless, if this is the path you want to take I think it's a cool learning experience and I'm interested in seeing how it turns out.

Situations where a Google account is essential -- feedback wanted
  • Education is a good one. Fortunately at this stage in my life it's no longer an issue for me. I cannot think of anything else I would need google for. Never needed Google to dial emergency services as this is available on dumb phones as well as land lines. Public service apps just need an email of phone number, email I host myself.

One thing that should be discussed is major email providers shutting out self-hosters so that they only accept emails originating from one of the big tech companies. You can receive emails, but having them accepted by others is another story. I'm usually not in favor of heavy handed legislation, but this is an area I would have no issue with the feds interfering as this is essentially a way to create a monopoly.
