  • It’s simply not at the same level. Pirlo hardly played in the 90’s, and every player you mentioned aside from Baresi and Maldini peaked in the 2000’s. Also you mentioned “both” Ronaldo’s but CR7 made his professional debut in 2003, and in case you meant Ronaldinho he didn’t make his debut until 1998, and moved to Europe in 2001. Denmark winning the euro in 92 wasn’t as impressive as Greece in 2004. The iconic teams you mentioned are t nearly as spectacular as the ones from the 2000’s either. United and Ajax may (keyword is may in Ajax’s case) have had their best seasons in the 90’s but no other club did.

2000-2010 was significantly better than 1990-2000.

  • 2000-2010 was the pinnacle. Real Madrid’s galacticos, Arsenal Invincibles, Chelsea’s 15 goals conceded team. Porto won the UCL, Barca’s Sextuple. Spain 2008 Euro and 2010 World Cup. The players were gods. Zidane, Ronaldinho, R9 at the peak of their power. CR7 and Messi both won Ballon D’Ors. The 2002 Brazil team was iconic. The 2006 Liverpool UCL final comeback. Maldini, Nesta, Cannavaro all defining what it meant to be an Italian defender. Nothing will ever compare to that decade, the level of competition, the iconic players, the incredible teams.
