Could someone familiar with west Africa please tell me why there are so many more Muslim players on the Ghana national team compared to the Nigerian one, when Ghana is only 20% Muslim while nigeria is 50% Muslim?

Tribalism has historically played a big factor in west African national team selection but I think that’s it’s just arbitrary that a lot of the current best Ghanaian players are Muslim.
I can’t speak for Ghana but I know in Nigeria there’s a geographical split that should explain some of it. The vast majority of the Muslims in Nigeria live in the North away from the more urban centres. The top division in Nigeria has only 4 or 5 of the 20 teams in the north. I think it’s a fair assumption to make that a lot of football academies are centred in the south and hence a lot of the talent is also from that region.
