Regarding centre midfield squad building: Jorginho out of contract, and surely time to move Partey on (for what little we’ll get). Elneny too, but not like he has much of a role. I can’t see us buying two midfielders. Douglas Luiz and Patino?
Douglaz Luiz will now cost about the same amount we offered for Caicedo.
Luiz is a good player but there are better options in the market. We need ceiling raisers not floor raisers.
Which options?
Martin Zubimendi, Hugo Larsson, Teun Koopmeiners to name a few. Also there were reports of us scouting Andre Trindade a Liverpool target.
Would be daft to move Partey on. I wouldn’t extend him either but selling him just adds unnecessary pressure into his successor.
In terms of names, I’m not sure exactly who. But they need to be Progressive and press resistance as Partey. everything else is secondary.
Zubimendi, and integrate Patino. Extend Jorginho for a year. Move on Partey and Elneny. Leaves a pathway for MLS and Nwaneri to play a role over the next few seasons as well. Don’t know what to do about Fabio and ESR, one of them needs to massively step up this year.
Should also keep Jorginho in this instance.
