Pretty niche topic, but for those that are environmentally conscious, The State of the Cryosphere 2023 report was published yesterday and its a seriously concerning read about our polar regions. About as close to a scientific consensus as you’ll get, with researchers from various disciplines basically unanimously agreeing that the 2°C warming threshold is way too high.

Scary considering our world leaders are, at best, are targeting 1.5°C. And at worst, are pretending that this isn’t even a real problem

Let’s be real the powers that be are preparing for how many billions may die, and how to secure the boarders from migrants rather than solving the problem

read awhile back that part of the motivation, that will remain formally unspoken, for much of border wall infrastructure popping up around the world (both global north and global south) is in anticipation for migratory flows that the climate-related crises of the mid and late 21st century will cause. pretty grim shit, especially india and bangladesh, considering how vulnerable bangladesh is to sea level rise

it is very scary, there definitely isn’t the concern about it from “decision makers” that there should be. We/They have known about this for decades, and incremental changes are nice but not nearly enough. They’re enough to maintain some amount of public approval ratings from people who like to see their politicians as “doing something on climate”.

But the reality of needing a complete overhaul of national and global economies to the extent that it would take, completely shifting the ways of life for a lot of people in the “west”, it harms the stakeholders of big companies as well as anyone who relies on the stock market. we cannot have that now can we.
