In your opinion, what are some of the greatest giant-killings in football? I’d be much more interested in any answers that don’t revolve around the FA Cup!

AC Milan vs Napoli 4 : 0 last season? Is it worth mentioning?
Because iirc around that time Milan was the huge underdog and Napoli was really in form.

The two most famous German cup shocks are Bayern in the 90s, losing to Wertheim in 1991 and Vestenbergsgreuth in 1994. Both regional teams.

First round of the German cup puts top tier sides up against “amateurs” (actually it’s just teams from outside the top 2 leagues), so it’s always fun when someone loses.

French cup is good for big giant killings too, I think of Marseille for example getting knocked out by an amateur side around 2018.

    Shevchenko - Crespo

    ------------Kaka

    Seedorf - Gattuso

    -‐-----------Pirlo

    Maldini - Stam - Nesta - Cafu

    --------------Dida

This was the best XI in club football history imo, zero weaknesses, every single player world class and at their peak, a world class manager, and it was beaten by Djimi Traore and Vladimar Smicer.

There’s no modern comparison because City, Real Madrid etc have weak areas. That Milan team was perfection. But its like Man City getting beat in the CL final by Fiorentina or Everton

Crespo peaked in Parma and Lazio end of 90s beginning of 2000s. Maldini peaked in the 90s. Jaap stam was barley a starter for Milan during that time. Cafu was on a decline and peaked in roma some years before.

Forgot if this was the Carling Cup or FA Cup, but Palace knocked out United in the quarter finals, and Darren Ambrose scored an absolute screamer from like 40 yards out at Old Trafford.

Bradford making the League Cup final as a League 2 club is one that flies under the radar a bit.

I know you said you’d prefer fewer FA Cup posts but I can’t help but mention Wigan Athletic’s run of 3 triumphs over Manchester City in the past decade, whilst regressively falling lower down the leagues.

Final, 2013 1-0 as a Premier league team.

Quarter finals 2014, 1-2 as a Championship team.

    5th Round, 2018, 1-0 as a League 1 team.

We’re their FA Cup bogey team for sure! Pep’s never won at Wigan, shambles.

Cagliari reaching the 1993-94 UEFA Cup semifinals, defeating Juventus 1-0 in Cagliari and 1-2 in Turin in the quarterfinals.
