Like, is post-shot xG enough?
Since it was introduced in 2017-18 season, would it be enough to rank all top 5 European leagues goalkeepers? Or what?
Since clean-sheets and save percentages equally depend on the overall defensive performance of the team
Thank you,
Look at their salaries. Some keepers are among the best paid in their team, while others have 10+ players earning more than the keeper of the team.
stats are helpful but watching games gives a better understanding of a goalkeeper’s performance, considering the defensive support and team dynamics. clean sheets alone don’t tell the whole story.
Stats dont tell the full story in football. It does in other sports like baseball but its hard in football to be so data driven.
Post-shot xG difference is amazing tool at indicating goalkeepers that are good on average in savings shots and to observe so called “hot goalie” effect we also observe in hockey. In football it may concern just one game, tournament or whole season (ter Stegen was probably the second most important player in 2015 Barca run).
For other stuff you need eye test.
You can stop relying too much on stats and use your own eyes and football knowledge
