Premier League has more than 8 teams with higher NET spend than Real Madrid in the last 10 years and yet their teams need 2-3 rebuilds every few years…
Why don’t they buy the best upcoming young talents as Madrid does:
- Vinicius (23)
- Bellingham (20)
- Rodrygo (23)
- Endrick (17) - 2024
- Guler (18)
- Valverde (25)
- Tchouameni (23)
- Camavinga (20)
- Militao (25)
- Davies (23) - 2024?
All of these players are bought when they were U-23 and only 1 (Jude) of them costed 100M+ while other 80M (Tchouameni).
What stops the other richer PL clubs to follow the same policy and buy the Cherki, Redondo, Wirtz, Santiago, and other young gems who are actually quality instead of wasting their money on overpriced deals (Mount, Casemiro, Havertz, Caicedo, Cucurella, Sterling, Mudryk, Antony, Nunez, etc) leading them to rebuild after rebuild for years…
I feel that all of Liverpool/United/Chelsea/Spurs/Arsenal goes for higher floor but lower ceiling in terms of their quality and potential while Madrid has a priority for highest ceiling ones…
Its like the saying, ‘Shoot for the moon and you will land alongside stars’. Its more profitable and sustainable in long term if you buy absolute worldbeater wonderkid than just a ‘good’ and ‘stable’ buys like McAllister, Gakpo, Mount, and others.
It simply limits your capability and thats a disaster especially when you are competing against Madrid, Bayern, City likes in domestic and continental competitions who are very much up for lining up dynasty level squads.
Chelsea used to sign loads of youngsters in roman abramovich era. And loaned them out to all over the world. But didn’t get the same result as madrid. We should give some credits to real madrid scouting. And who doesn’t want to play for teams like real or barca. It’s also a plus for RM.
Its easier to do that when you already have a great squad as Madrid did. They bought players when they already had Modric, Casemiro, Kroos, etc.
And they were really competent and a little bit lucky that almost all their young players turned out fine.
Signing young players is always a risk.
Using Mac Allister and Gakpo of examples of poor transfer ideas seems strange. Both are young and have contributed to a decent amount already (particularly Gakpo).
So most of the players bought cheaply were before they had a real breakout or were on expiring contracts.
Madrid gets first pick of South American talent, and most other talent as well, by virtue of their history. When two teams are in for a player, and one is Madrid, Madrid wins 90% of the time, they don’t really have to convince players of their project. The young Brazilians were all bought early, and with no small risk, yes, but no one was going to beat Madrid if it turned into a player decision. Similarly Jude and Tchoumeni had a few suitors but chose Madrid. If they don’t pan out, Madrid can buy their way out; they also have almost no risk of being out of Europe because they’ve maintained a good spine, and can have a relatively “down” year in the league where they develop talent and it not effect their finances or brand because there aren’t 6-8 teams in Spain that consistently get to that level, only 3-4.
Plus England has work-permit requirements that were historically tougher. Outside of Barca, Atletico, Bayern, PSG, and Juve (arguably), no one outside of England has the money.
Real Madrid didn’t create this team in 2022 at the same time as winning the Champions League.
It was a process that began with CR7’s departure and years of defeat passed until it could be won.
Any PL team would have sacked everybody and change their philosophy to the first year without titles or signed 3 mediocre players to cover the non-signing of Mbappe.
The key to success is not to deviate from the plan no matter what.
What are you talking about? Real Madrid won two league titles and a CL after Ronaldo’s departure. The only season which they really struggled was the one right after he left. There was no 5 year process like you see with Arsenal or Liverpool. Madrid, Bayern, and City are probably the only 3 clubs in world football that have achieved a sustained period of winning in the past several years
From 2018 to 2021, in those 4 years only one League title was won. In any case, the only thing that matters is the Champions League, I don’t value winning a corrupt competition.
Arsenal, Chelsea and City had a policy on getting only young talents, it just hadn’t worked as well as Real Madrid’s.
Do u remember Carlos Vela or Arshavin in Arsenal?
Chelsea got young De Bruyne and Salah…
City has been buy in young talents like crazy, Julian Alvarez is the latest successful example.
I’m sure other people will remember more and better examples
City got Aguero when he was 23, De Bruyne when he was 23, Sterling when he was 20, Dias when he was 24, etc.
Now they’ve got Gvardiol who’s 21, Doku 21, Alvarez 23, and Haaland 23
City’s policy has worked fantastic, they just aren’t as young, expensive or as much of a gamble as Madrids
Gvardiol, Dias, Doku, Haaland, Sterling, De Bruyne have all been big money signings though? All of them are more expensive than all young Real Madrid players besides Bellingham what are you waffling about
Aguero, Sterling, Halaand, Gvardiol were already well regarded as one of the best players in their positions when they moved to City. All were signed for big money except Aguero
KDB, Doku, Alavarez were gambles that worked out or at least appear to be working out very well.
they can try their best at signing them but can they develop talent as well as real madrid?
the track record of development in premier league have been not great
Real Madrid already had a team winning everything, most of those players wouldn’t need to be starters in their 1st season, English clubs that aren’t City are always looking for starters that allow them to fight the following season.
Madrid is probably the biggest club in the world, when they show interest they are 1st choice for the players even if salary isn’t as high as other offers.
Well we try but sometimes they pick Madrid.
Well because they end up at Real. No club has a better lure than the mighty Real (i’m far from a Real fan but I try to stay objective )
I think it’s the weather.
If a South america player goes to Spain, he has to be there 2 years to be eligible for spanish citizenship.
In England it’s 5 years.
So, after 2 years they are considered non-EU for ucl. This is huge factor.
Real are doing what other clubs were doing when they were buying established stars. They have had a change of policy. In fact most clubs now pay for potential and only a few can pay for a finished product.
City is doing that mate, they have bought 90% of young talents in England
All these already play a lot for the reigning treble winners
Haaland 23 Alvarez 23 Doku 21 Foden 23 Lewis 19 Gvardiol 21
And
Dias 26 Nunes 25 Rodri 27
Plus other youngsters like Bobb 20 on the fringes
