    Unironically, if you had some kind of gamified crowdsourced VAR, it could probably work.

    After each game, an oversight committee decides on the “correct” decision for each incident, and Fan-VARs who voted the correct way earn points, those who didn’t lose points. More points = get to be involved in higher prestige games, plus bigger lotteries, with £10’000 draws done by computer during half-time for big matches, and the winning Fan-VAR gets his name and photo (and points tally) on the Sky Sports feed.

    I mean, obviously it’s a terrible dystopia, but I bet it would lead to better results than the present setup.
