What is the stadium with the block of flats so close to it that a ball can be kicked into the balcony? It’s basically an extra private stand. He should have had that.
Also, I’d have liked to have seen the Spurs Skywalk, maybe with Levy murdering someone on it, bond villain style.
It must be hard as well to work out how long is needed. With a physical injury, there are tests and more tests, doctors can stick probes in you and take measurements. Yep, we certify your ankle is good now, get back on the pitch. For a mental health injury, it’s much harder… it’s going to have to be much more player-driven.
I think it’s the fault of Capello really, who was so foreign, quite cold, terse, with not a great command of the language, and hugely underperformed with squad cohesion (ie, the soft side of the job) being a failure of the team. Not that I’m putting all the blame on Capello… the media and the players all have to take some share of that. Also, his style was of his time.
I think if we had a warm and cuddly foreign manager with great English, like Klopp was when he first started at Liverpool (he’s a bit more jaded now), then the FA would consider it. Even if you’re a Southgate doubter, you can’t deny that he’s made such huge progress on squad cohesion.
Unironically, if you had some kind of gamified crowdsourced VAR, it could probably work.
After each game, an oversight committee decides on the “correct” decision for each incident, and Fan-VARs who voted the correct way earn points, those who didn’t lose points. More points = get to be involved in higher prestige games, plus bigger lotteries, with £10’000 draws done by computer during half-time for big matches, and the winning Fan-VAR gets his name and photo (and points tally) on the Sky Sports feed.
I mean, obviously it’s a terrible dystopia, but I bet it would lead to better results than the present setup.
