I come here with a question about undervolting the processor to ~95w
I wonder which of these cpu generations can reach 95w without significant performance loss
I would like to ask you to provide the values and in which games they were tested
ps: I’m writing about 95w because I have an i5-9600K, so the higher power consumption (250w) is terrifying for me *including the graphics card power consumption
Among the classic desktop versions the higher the gen and model, the better power efficiency at low wattages, so an i9-14900K would give you the highest performance at a 95W power limit.
Additionally with undervolting you’d get a bit more performance out of it at the same power consumption
How are you planning to cool it and what are you going to use it for?

Undervolting doesn’t reduce performance but it risks stability. You won’t hit 95w under heavy load with any of those processors through undervolting. A lot of games are pretty light loads though, so they may already be less than that. If not you could put in power limits which reduce the CPU clock speed. This will make it slower though.

Fwiw max load of the 9600k is above 95w already unless you’re limiting it somehow.
You should go with amd if power consumption is an issue
I just tried to cap a 14700k to 253 watts. I was able to get the average below 200 watts (closer to 180) but I observed brief spikes in aida64 and with my ups monitoring to 325 watts even with pl1/pl2 set to 125 and most post tech off. (MCE, TVB, ABT off and some other tuning)
I’d say it’s difficult to prevent high usage spikes with 14th gen based on this.
lga1700 cpus are very effecient if you play with the power limits. I 12700k(2x), 12900k and 13900kf and all of them were super fun to see how they performed at lower watts.
I gaming they dont consume much at all, but I do not run with the e cores at all :)
my 13600k reach 125watts (vcore 1.077v) without any issue/ performance loss,.
and this 125-130watts is max powerdraw in cbr23,. if i play games its take 30-55watts ,. some cases 75watts (like cyberpunk),.
full performance with 125-130watts - 24200 cbr23 score;
reduced performance with 95watts - 22800 cbr23 score https://imgur.com/a/owNYMrO (i use both hwinfo and hwmonitor :) );this 95watts is power limit over 125watts undervolt; so its not affect gaming performance and gaming power draws.
Terrified of power consumption?
Sounds like you need to talk to a shrink more than R/intel
Techpowerup did an article on lowering power limits on a 12900k, all the way from 50W to 241.
Gaming performance, for what games they tested anyway, did not change much down to 125W for PL1 and PL2. Below that there was a performance decrease.
Application / multithreaded performance would drop a decent amount with the lower limits but gaming you can cut power quite a bit from stock before you will notice a change.
My 13900k is only over 300w during full core loads, which is rare. It’s normally between 80-140w gaming.
Why are you scared?
Pretty sure this is what killed my 13900k just warning
