Watched two matches: Chelsea Vs Brighton & City Vs Tottenham and both games had huge referee-ing errors at the end…How did Brighton not get a corner kick when the ball clearly hits a Chelsea player and goes out the line…And why did the referee stop Silva’s 1v1 chance against Tottenham to award a foul in favour of city…I am neither a brighton nor a city fan but both these decisions angered me so bad…And these smug referees just walk out with their satisfied punchable faces playing with the feelings of the fans and sanctity of our league…This is probably one of the most exciting seasons in recent times and yet we can’t enjoy it to the fullest coz of these incompetent referees…PL should just fire all English referees and import referees from other countries…

Refereeing has been bad for a while but this season has just been so much worse than anything before. Needs a complete overhaul with new people but I doubt we will get that.

New lows? They literally messed up a call so badly they had to completely reevaluate VAR communications

A ref blowing the whistle too soon isn’t a new low.

If the ref goes reverses a decision, game starts with drop ball => corner wasn’t given. Good application of VAR just an unfortunate rule that exists in our game. The City / Grealish decision was atrocious and pure FIFA scripting tho

That decision by the ref in the city game was the clearest evidence of corruption there’s ever been.

Refs can and do make shit and wrong calls all the time, they can hide behind plenty of things to justify shit decisions though or just flat out claim human error if it’s particularly bad and nobody can really question it.

That one at city though there’s literally no valid reason however suspect and unlikely that can be given for doing what he did other than corruption. He can be seen waving play on as city had the advantage, They then play the ball forward, Grealish is clean through and he then blows and brings it back for a city freekick. The only reason you can bring it back at that point is if there’s no advantage, I’d say grealish being played clean through is a pretty fucking big advantage.

So far nobody can even begin to offer an explanation for it, there’s a reason for that. There isn’t one. It’s clear as day there’s something very suspect occurred there but it looks like it will get brushed under the carpet because pep hasn’t in his words “done an arteta” and made a scene about it.

He really should have tbh its worth the pathetic FA fine he would have got to see how they explain this one.

Because Simon Hooper is an absolute turkey. He always has a clueless expression on his face.

I’m certain the decision in the Spurs/City game was because the ref blew for the foul immediately but play didn’t stop. He then had no choice but to pull is back.

    That’s my take anyway!

The City one was a mistake (and I can admit that as a Spurs fan) but not a wrong decision. It was a foul and it was a booking for Royal because he cynically tried to bring Haaland down to waste time.

He’s obviously got caught in two minds whether to pull it up then or not and has ended up getting it arse about face.

There is absolutely no guarantee Grealish would have scored though so City acting like it was a definite goal was the height of arrogance. Davies and Royal were coming round and Vicario is no slouch in these situations either.

Haaland should have been off with a three game ban for screaming abuse in the referee’s face and continuing to scream and swear at him after. The bloke is an absolute twat and they need to come down on these things.

The city call, while sucks is completely part of the game. The ref made a split second decision for advantage. You can’t have it both ways. There should be no mistakes with VAR but these on field calls are part of the game

They are under more intense scrutiny this season than anytime that I can remember. The pressure could be getting to them and leading to more mistakes.

Neither were particularly game changing decisions TBH. As crazy as it sounds, in justification of Hooper it’s a pretty isolated 1v3, Silva isn’t particularly outpacing any of those players and you could argue there isn’t an advantage to be played. Is it still a shaky call? Absolutely. But I do not think it’s as outrageous as anyone’s saying it is.
