Another week in the books. Let’s chat about manga in the general discussion thread! Feel free to use this thread for questions, comments, recommendations, etc.
Like normal, please be careful with spoilers. I wrote a guide about spoilers in case you need a refresher on how to handle them (also linked in the sidebar).
I finally finished my report writing this week at work…only to then proceed to leave for vacation. I have had a series of hops, skips, and jumps across my home country and found myself visiting some of my wife’s family out in Los Angeles for now. All that said to preface the fact I won’t be able to post much over the next week or two. In fact, I will often not be able to check what’s going on at all. To that end…
I would like to welcome Kadath, @Thade780@lemmy.world, to the moderation team for the community. She has very graciously agreed to be another set of eyes to screen reports, watch for spam, etc. I look forward to working together with the community’s resident villainess moderator to make this a better place for everybody (note that I have in no way cleared that title with Kadath).
That aside, I was able to read a little bit.
- Tsuitenai Game Jikkyousha wa Akogare no Hito ni Kakinsareru - This series just had its final chapter with chapter 21. I had no idea that it was coming to an end though. However, the ending was actually nice! It won’t go down as one of my favorites ever, but it did a good job depicting a romcom set in university and some of the parasocial complications that must arise when livestreamers interact with fans.
- Harapeko Oyako to Motokare Yanushi / A Hungry Mother and Daughter and Her Ex-Boyfriend Landlord - I found this series this past week and it is pretty much what it says on the tin. Imagine an ex from 19 years ago shows up at your door with a young child and hungry. Would you offer to let them live with you? Well, our MC does. It’s only four chapters in, so not sure yet if this is going to be mom and daughter hijinx or if this is going to be a bit more on the serious/drama side. Willing to let this one go for a bit to find its voice.
Thank you!
I like Resident Villainess, it has a nice ring to it. 🥰As our overlord mentioned, I will be mostly checking for spam. Sadly my busy period shot from the expected two weeks to probably four.
While I am rarely posting these days, I still make sure to check the community every once in a while during the day.I can’t wait until my current task is completed and I roll back into my regular role. Prepare to be spammed, lol. 🤭
Congrats on the
sentencenew job! It’s not all bad. You’ll get to flaunt your power over us mortals as you see fit! That’s what being a mod is about, right?
Seriously though, I hope we all behave well enough to make your work easy.
Thank you!
What manga is that from?
Also,
Resident Villainess
Another !otomeisekai@lemmy.world enjoyer? 👀 I love that manga genre so much. I have so much to read in it, although because I am the way I am I have started not allowing myself to read anything incomplete—otherwise I’ll binge read it all in one night and then forget to come back to it later on for new chapters.
The one in the picture is from Taming My Villanous Little Brother.
I love OI. 🥰
I just checked the community a little more and that was kind of a dumb question of me because you have posted there before 😅 thanks for the answer, it is on my MyAnimeList now as Plan to Read! Curious if it is more a comedy or if it turns out dark as the summary suggests.
Wondering if I should make a new otome isekai community here, it might get more engagement as they are indeed anime and manga. Although some are manwha which might not be allowed as that is Korean and not Japanese and this instance’s sidebar says
For all things anime and other related Japanese media such as manga, games, vtubers, and light novels.
However, given some of them are manga and anime, it should be okay to let manwha in as it follows the genre. I’d feel really bad and frankly annoyed excluding manwha that fits the genre.
We happen to post Korean stuff too sometimes. Last I did was My Dear Aster (absolutely loved it).
If we make a OI dresses and jewelry community, my screenshots folder is going to be emptied. 😅

Is there some manga that haven’t been adapted with a kuudere girl?
that haven’t been adapted
As in, adapted into anime?
The only one among my 9s and 10s is Sheep Princess in Wolf’s Clothing
Finished Gleipnir. The final volume was lame as hell. Some real asspulls to attempt extra stakes, even though the stakes were already high. Really felt like padding. Sad to see it end like this.
SPOILERS (in case the tags my Lemmy app uses, don’t work for others) Edit: it didn’t. Using the browser UI to add those spoiler tags as well.

! Ikeuchi as final boss was super lame. His motivations were incredibly weak and it was just so out of nowhere. He came across like a child throwing a temper tantrum. Trying to add emotional weight to Shuichi’s and Claire’s actions (guilt-tripping) was also unfair and I don’t think that was on purpose, since no one rebuked it. Yes they killed people, but they didn’t have much of a choice. Moreover, the entire thing was unnecessary. After defeating him, they did the same thing they were trying to do before he deus ex machina’d himself back into the manga. Killing off Elaina could’ve easily been done without this too, if that was the reason this was included. !<
END SPOILERS
This week has been superb for me when it comes to manga.
First up, there are two confessions:
meta spoiler
- My Dress-Up Darling
- I Think I Turned My Childhood Friend (♂) Into a Girl
Shoujo Nyuumon came to an end. MangaDex commenters are saying that it got axed, but I personally thought it ended at a good spot. Definitely better than series that dragged on unnecessarily.
Binged A Complicated Sibling Relationship 4-Koma right as its translation is being completed. It is a dumpster fire, but I’ll be lying if I say it ain’t entertaining.
