The head of the PGMOL admitted that Guilmares should have gotten a red card. How can they fine Arteta and warn clubs of similar behaviour whilst simultaneously saying he was correct in his assessment of the performance of the referees? It’s fucking ridiculous. What’s the point of this? The audio isn’t going to be a smoking gun against Arteta’s criticisms. They’ll just say ‘we can’t prove the ball was in or out’ and ‘we can’t get an angle to see if the goal scorer is offside’. The problem is more that they can’t answer those kinds of questions, which is the point of VAR.
In terms of referee communication, I’d be far more interested in hearing what they had to say about Bruno’s violent conduct on Jorginho which by the textbook wording was a red card.
He’s one of those players at club level that will score a flurry of goals in a few games in a row and then not score for ages, but most of the time he is at least making contributions on the field in other ways
