I think he’s meant to initiate the transitions in the ‘best transition team in the world’ football Ten Hag seeks to play, he’s an intelligent hard worker, but already not being picked because the team is so crap Ten Hag thinks McTominay might get a goal in his form.

I don’t think Mount has been bad at all, Amrabet has been weirdly casual to me, Mount is a trier. But like Van de Beek, soon people wonder about his position as Ten Hag won’t even play him on the right. I’m certain he does more than Antony or with Eriksen in the middle they’ll play well together.

Made decent sense to me, Erik den was great but had no legs left so they bought a younger guy who can run/press/pass to a decent level.

Nowhere near as good on the ball as Eriksen and can’t potentially run a game and dictate like Eriksen can occasionally. He definitely has the legs and energy but other than that I actually don’t see what he offers and I’m basing that on Chelsea/England too.

Easy, he should be playing beside Fernandes where Pogba used to play beside him. There’s room for a hard working midfielder.

We thought he’d be perfect for Liverpool. His dad influenced this decision and Mount himself thinks he’s gonna be a superstar so that’s why he’s at Utd.

It would make some sense if the intention was to drop Antony and stick Mount on the wing.

Which Ten Hag won’t, for some reason.

Yeah, and they already had Eriksen whose best position also is CAM, now they have 3 CAMs, 2 of them being used as CDMs which they are not good at. And actually as far as I remember, Donny used to play CAM at Ajax as well.

I honestly believe it will just take a full year before Havertz starts to show his talent again.

His best position is as an #8 but he’s played years as the False Nine which have changed his automatisms and style of play. It’ll take a year to integrate into Arteta’s system and start to play the 8 more naturally as an AM.

At the moment, he’s still playing midfield like a False Nine - dropping, and doing a one-touch back.

He needs to reintegrate turning and driving forward as his natural tendency

The logic wasn’t without merit. I have seen so many guys leave Chelsea and do great!

Mount should’ve worked imo. I was annoyed because when he is at it, he’s fantastic. Even when he isn’t scoring goals or getting assists, he can still make teams better. He will never be the main guy but he was a great cog in literally any system he is asked to play in. Could assist and had the selfishness to score goals at the right moments. If Man U got 2021 Mount. Then it would’ve been a slam dunk.

Havertz I knew was a bigger risk for Arsenal. Tall without the strength, and he isn’t shifty in tight areas. Also for some reason his first touch is fine…. But it’s just a little off. Like it’s JUST too heavy and the defender gets it off of him. But he isn’t really a massive goal threat. I never really knew what he was. Imo should’ve stayed at Bayer for a couple more seasons.

Cmon where is Mount going to succeed? Bruno is the better AM, Eriksen is a better CM and Casemiro and Amrabat are better DM. Not to mention McTominay and Van de Beek who are all valuable options for their midfield. It never made sense.

Kai Havertz I dont think made a lot of sense either. He is competing with Odegaard and Fabio Vieira for the number 10 role.

When Man Utd signed Mount I was over the moon. Then I realized he and Bruno play basically the same position and when both are in there it becomes a total CF.

Mount to united doesn’t make sense not because mount is a bad player but because he doesn’t fit in their squad. He’s best in a midfield or forward role where his defence impact is pressing a back line. So either the more advanced 8 or a 10 or on a wing with a wingback to defend the wide areas and provide width. At united those roles are taken by Fernandes and rashford and we’ve seen Fernandes is best with a double pivot which I don’t think mount works best in. Weird signing imo, mount would’ve been much better at Liverpool or arsenal.

i agree 100%…Chelsea fans not only were mostly done with him but when we saw he was going to a place he was unlikely to succeed, even better. Had he gone to Liverpool especially he might have cooked. At Arsenal he would have been a better fit than Havertz has been.

That’s fair and as a cfc fan I wish him the best. I do think the 60 million price tag is too much even in today’s market.

60 million for a long ball outlet? Seems like some fans are trying really hard to justify the price tag. Deep down I think even Arteta knows he threw that money away.

Havertz as a false nine / striker is just wasted. He is a very attack minded 8, played his best football at Leverkusen in that position. If you put him there with a striker that knows when to drop or when to make a run and he is deadly and will get loads of goals and assists

as a Chelsea fan, seeing all these debates on where he should play, its all too relatable, now Arsenal fans are doing it. in my personal opinion, he will not do very well regardless of playing position in this league. This league is too fast, too physical for him. He was good at Bayer because of the characteristics of that league, you want to see the best Havertz send him back to Germany. Chelsea played him in every possible attacking position and he was unconvincing in all of them, hence the constant debate.

He was more of a floating no.10 at Leverkusen, even when he played false no.9 for them he was very good. He’s just not suited to Arsenal or Chelsea

He’d be better in that position but you’d waste odegaard who is the better player on the ball and should be more involved going forwards than havertz

The problem is that this position slowly loses popularity and is often replaced with the 4-3-3 or 4-2-3-1 formations for they are reputated to be far more efficient to many teams.

4-3-3 with CDM for better defence and more controlled midfield that can hold together with CMs playibg box to box ( Barcelona basically).

4-2-3-1 for having a high number in the middle and keeping high pressure on the defence, better possesion with the ball and more passing options.

Havertz is somewhere between the two, he can perform well in a mixte position because he does not have a striker/ center forward role, nor he has a very good passing range. Don’t get me wrong, his passing is fine, but not thoes top level passing that are important to open up defences and create chances from his team.

Why the 4-2-3-1 does not work despite Havertz beiing able to play CAM, it is because it is taken by Ødegaard. Therfor, he will usually play CM or CDM which is, by far, not his best positions.

Needed a backup for Bruno who has literally been ran dogged since he’s signed.

Mount is a prem proven player with similar qualities who was unsettled at cfc. It’s not eth fault the price that is paid but the need for depth in Bruno’s position is one that will come into play if he’s injured.

Worse thing about Mount and Havertz signings was it gave Chelsea an extra 130 million breathing room in FFP. Why help them out like that?
