I think Trent’s defending gets brought up a lot because he’s so often in conversations of being one of the best full backs in the world and it is logical to therefore bring up the fact that he is an average defender. It’s probably a bit overblown and I think in the past systems have not aided him, but there’s a lot of examples of him being a middling 1 on 1 defender, and also a number of examples of him losing his man or ball watching.

Imo his skill set is not really about being a good defender but when you’re arguing about him vs Walker or Reece James for an england team for example it’s clear he’s a less multifaceted player than them and that’s to do with him defending at a much lower level.

I’d say the last two windows jury’s out, some have looked positive. But barring summer 16 I think every window has been bad or meh since summer 14.

Lukaku did his less than 3 months after joining whilst under the same manager he signed for. On top of that he did it when there was no negativity around him with supporters.

I think football is less positional in the sense it was 20 years ago. If you view a 10 as a position on the pitch any team playing 4231 plays a 10. If you view it as a role then there’s a number of players who qualify, de bruyne and Maddison are creative hubs that link the midfield to the attack.

He’d be better in that position but you’d waste odegaard who is the better player on the ball and should be more involved going forwards than havertz
