It’s not a bad point as he’s a bit of a Milner (not a direct comparison, just as a City player who seems somewhat positionally homeless). For some reason, Guardiola plays him on the left instead of on the right; typically, Pep would place him where he could cut in and shoot on his stronger foot. But not with Phil (as with Jesus).
I think it’s a general brain-warping that comes from watching City. The team is so good that performances can often seem routine. As a Liverpool supporter, I’d love Foden (ok, his haircut would have to change; my best friend had a “Clooney” in the '90s and it looked awful back then). I don’t see the comparison between Foden and Bernardo. To me, Bernardo is a like Firmino but a midfielder, whereas Foden is more direct. If he has a big flaw, it’s that while he might be scrappy he’s not a physical presence. He’s the forward version of Andy Robertson.
In the Mbappe/Haaland era it will take something exceptional from him to win a Bd’O, but that shouldn’t be interpreted as a snub.

He’s had a rotten run of injuries for one. Second, when Chelsea was flying not-too-long ago, it was because he and Chilwell simultaneously had the run of their flanks. Cucarella is not Chilwell and so the team’s balance is off, further hampered by the team’s average age plummeting and having few experienced players around him. Perhaps injuries have permanently decreased his effectiveness, but to say he’s overrated is short-termism as well. (Liverpool supporter)
