The nuanced take is that we should have recognised that ship had sailed, and not pushed ahead with his signing when we did. The money spent on him should have been used to buy midfielders and full-backs.
He was a fantastic player for us, but a greater cost than a benefit.
Might be doing Papiss Cisse a disservice calling him bang average, because for a short while he was utterly unplayable, but that goal against Chelsea - which he fully meant, and I won’t hear different - will take some beating
