I agree, Jesus and Nketiah leave a lot to be desired but I will say that Martinelli also just doesn’t look up. It’s his one fatal flaw, he’s doing all this great stuff with his head down and then gets pushed to the corner because the pass never comes at the right time.

I think the ceiling is higher with Havertz but it requires a more from the midfield than we’ve seen so far whereas I think we know what we’re getting with Jorginho and that’s not going to change too much. Rice’s passing from deep would need to get more ambitious and faster (similar to Partey) and Havertz needs to arrive in the final third sooner and gain some semblance of confidence.

If he’s the one tasked to make the runs to open up the low block, he can’t also be responsible for playing the through ball pass, he should be the one receiving. I wonder if the teams overall through ball numbers are up or down from last year.
